This. is. real. life.

While walking to meet Allegra to work on our project today, it finally hit me that this is really my life.  I am doing what I always dreamed of doing - living in Spain (well at least for a semester) in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  I still can't believe all of it, but I know that it is indeed real, and I must say quite astonishing.

Sevilla has finally started to cool down some since we first arrived.  Even though it is still sweltering hot in the middle of the day (12-4), it is much cooler in the mornings and the evenings.  We have even slept with the fan off for a couple of nights.  I even got to sleep under my sheet last night!  It felt awesome!

The people in Sevilla are just so nice.  I just can't get over it.  I mean, I know that there are nice and mean people all over the world, but here everyone is just so nice.  It just seems like their culture is so much slower than ours.  They take the time to smile at you when you pass by them on the street.  Some sevillanos even greet you.  It's amazing how often it happens here...and disappointing how often it doesn't happen in the US.  After living here just one week I know that that's something I definitely want to change about myself once I get back as well.  I know it's not feasible (nor advisable) to greet everyone you come across, but how much better of a world would we live in if we took the time just to smile?

I know I haven't really blogged much about my senora, Julia, and alot of you have asked about her.  Although I'm not fantastic about guessing ages, I would venture to say that she is in her mid-60s.  She has two children, both in their 40s, as well as two grandchildren - a 2 year old and a 5 year old.  They are absolutely precious!  She is one of the sweetest ladies in the world.  Julia has taken the time to get to know Tiffany and I and has put a lot of effort in making sure we are comfortable and transitioning well.  Like I said yesterday, she has figured out our eating habits and plans meals accordingly.  She is so sweet about it.  If she makes a salad, she knows that I'm not crazy about tomatoes but that I do love onions so when she serves it to me she will make sure to put lots of onions and only a few tomatoes.  Me and Tiffany are constantly joking about the fact that we are going to be so spoiled when we get back to the US.  She always has our plates and cups and everything set out for us.  If we don't have time to make our beds in the morning she does it for us.  She cleans the house AT LEAST every other day, if not every day.  On Saturday we are going with our program to a site of ancient Roman ruins (Italica) and to the beach.  We are supposed to bring sandwiches for lunch so she asked us what kind of sandwich meat we would like and then went and got it the next day for our sandwiches.  I got some tomato sauce on my shirt tonight after dinner (when I was rinsing my plate).  I told Julia about it and she said "no te preocupas. todos los problemas de la vida tienen una soluciona, y para esto problema, soy la solucion."  Which basically means "Don't worry.  All of life's problems have a solution.  And for this problem, I am the solution."  And she said she would take care of the stain for me.  How sweet!

To catch up on the "food diary" portion of my blog, today for lunch we had the same pureed vegetables/soup that we had on the first day.  We also had a piece of fish that was cooked on the stove top with olive oil and garlic.  It was the BEST fish I have ever had.  It was almost like fried fish, except it wasn't, which just makes it all the better.  For dinner we had green beans with tomato sauce.  Although it didn't look or sound appetizing to me, it was delicious.  I would have never thought of the combination, but it was great.  We also had some amazing (and HUGE) grapes as well as banana yogurt.  :)

But for now, it's bedtime.  I have class in the morning from 9:30-12:15 again.  Then we are coming home for lunch and going shopping after lunch!  Hopefully I'll have pictures to upload tomorrow! :)

(I know some of you have emailed me questions about my life here, etc.  If I haven't answered them (I've tried to) or you have more, just comment them on this post and I'll do my best to answer them!)
