Casa de mi señora!

This morning my roommate and I got up and headed downstairs to get breakfast at the hotel.  They had an arrangement of foods to choose from.  I had a Dannon strawberry yogurt.  Although it was the Dannon brand it tasted different, almost with a different texture.  It wasn't that it was bad or anything; it was actually pretty good, just different.  I also had a piece of toast with peach jam on it.  It was fantastic!  Their bread is amazing--it's not like the cheap bread we buy at the grocery store, it's like real, fresh bread.  Amazing!!

Then we headed back up to our hotel room to make sure everything was packed up.  We were told to wait until around 10 when they would call us to head out to our host family's home.  We got called at like 10:03 so we headed downstairs.  They helped us hail a cab.  The driver loaded our luggage in the trunk and we headed toward our host family's apartment.  We are located in building 2C.  The driver saw 2B so he assumed it was nearby and dropped us off.  We wound up having to call our señora because we couldn't find the building.  It went from 2B to 4A.  Her niece was over at her apartment so she came downstairs to find us and take us up to the apartment.  The elevators here are small so we could only go up one at a time with our luggage.

Once we got to the apartment, our señora greeted us warmly.  She gave us each a hug and the traditional kiss on each cheek.  It was really sweet.  She then tried to guess our ages and said that she thought I was 16 or 17. Haha.  When I told her I was 21 she couldn't believe it.  She said I was too small and cute to be 21...haha.  But she is so precious.  She lives alone (I believe she is widowed) but has two older children that have moved out and live by themselves.  She had our room all set up and everything planned out.  When we walked into the room she was like "You can sleep on this bed, and you can sleep on this bed."  Then she proceeded to show us which closet was ours (complete with clothes hangers for us).  There is a nightstand in between our beds, and she said "this drawer is yours, Tiffany, and this one is for you Sarah."  She then pointed out the bookcase for our books and things and the two shoe organizers--of course showing us which one was for which of us.  She even had our apartment keys laid out for us as well as a small basket a piece to put our jewelry in.  Then she showed us where the bathroom is and of course pointed out which towels were for which one of us as well as which shelf to put our stuff on--of course there was one for each of us.  :)

She offered us a glass of water and we went into the kitchen.  She was ecstatic to show off her newly renovated kitchen.  It is absolutely gorgeous (she even asked me to take a picture of it to show everyone back home--that's how proud she is of it).  It is also rather large for a Spanish kitchen.  She also has a cat.  She is kind of a small cat and we think her name is something like "Chirpi" but can't really figure out exactly how to pronounce it.  She's a really sweet cat though and she likes to curl up on the ends of our beds.

After we unpacked all of our stuff, our señora put our suitcases away for us (no idea where though).  I got on my laptop to check to see if we had wireless (which we do!!!).  Tiffany (my roommate) took a nap while I read for a little while.  Then, I too fell asleep for a little while.  I heard our señora rustling around in the kitchen though and soon she came to tell us that lunch was ready.  First we had a vegetable puree (it tasted like sweet potatoes and butternut squash...our señora said there were 6 kinds of vegetables in it) that was pretty much a soup.  It was fantastic.  Then we had a piece of fried fish.  It was great but I am not used to eating meat without some kind of sauce on it though (like ketchup) so that´s definitely something I need to get used to.  We also had some awesome bread and to finish up a piece of honeydew melon.  It was a delicious meal.

But for now, I´m going to go and try to upload a couple of pictures.  I´ll try to attach one to this blog post, but I´m not sure if I know exactly how to.  We´ll see!

This is my bed in our room!! :)
